Pressure Washing in Muscle Shoals

Drive Avalon Avenue past FAME Studios, where the town's recording history started, and you see the same thing on house after house: a green tint creeping along the north wall, a grey shadow on the driveway where the carport roof drips, red clay splashed up the bottom row of brick. Muscle Shoals sits low and flat on the south side of the Tennessee River, just below Wilson Dam, and the lake keeps the air wet most of the year. That moisture is what feeds the algae and mildew we wash off here.

Most of what we clean in town is one of two things. There are the brick ranches from the 1960s through the 1980s, usually with a long concrete drive, a carport or two-car garage, and a patio out back under a big shade tree. Then there are the newer subdivisions, mostly vinyl over a brick skirt, on wide lots with more concrete than anybody remembers pouring. Both get dirty the same way. They need different handling to get clean.

The City of Muscle Shoals keeps its own list of city services, and none of them cover a mildewed house. That part is ours.

Streets and subdivisions we wash

We work all over town: the older blocks off Avalon and Woodward Avenue, the streets that wind back toward the river, and the newer neighborhoods spreading out along the edges of the city. Flat lots and long driveways mean a lot of square footage of concrete per house here, so driveway and walkway cleaning tends to ride along with almost every house wash we do in Muscle Shoals.

Shade is the other pattern. Older streets have big oaks and pecans over the yards, and anything that stays damp under them, the north side of the house, the back patio, the walk to the side door, grows a dark film that comes back every couple of seasons. Newer subdivisions get less shade but more sun-baked dirt and pollen, and the vinyl shows every streak of it.

What houses here actually need

Brick ranches take more pressure than people expect on the brick itself and much less on everything around it. The mortar joints on a fifty-year-old ranch can be soft, the wood trim and soffits are usually painted, and older aluminum gutters dent if you look at them wrong. We clean brick with a cleaner that lets the dirt rinse out instead of blasting it out, and we keep the wand off the trim.

Vinyl is a different job. High pressure drives water up behind the laps and into the wall, so vinyl houses get a soft wash: a low-pressure rinse carrying a cleaner that kills the algae at the root, then a plain-water rinse. It is the same method we use on roofs, and it is why we do not stand in the yard with a pressure wand aimed at your siding. You can read more about how we handle the siding itself before you decide.

Concrete is the one place pressure does the real work. A surface cleaner on a long Muscle Shoals driveway lifts the black mildew, the clay tracked in from the yard and the oil spot by the garage without leaving the zebra stripes a hand wand leaves behind. Pollen season, March into May, is when most people notice all of this at once, and it is our busiest stretch of the year.

Services in Muscle Shoals

The usual list for a Muscle Shoals house: soft washing vinyl and painted siding, brick cleaning, roof algae removal, gutter face cleaning, driveway and sidewalk cleaning, patio and pool deck cleaning, and fence and deck washing. A lot of folks bundle the house and the concrete in one visit, since the setup is already in the driveway. For the driveways, walks and patios in particular, here is what a concrete job involves.

Small storefronts and offices along the main roads get the same care on sidewalks, entries and dumpster pads. We schedule commercial work early or late so the lot is clear.

Muscle Shoals sits right in the middle of the area we cover, so crews are in town most weeks. We also cross the river and work Sheffield and Tuscumbia, and the house on the far side of the bridge in Florence is on the same route.
